Green Day will mark the 20th anniversary of American Idiot by releasing expansive reissues of their punk rock opera on October 25. The American Idiot Super Deluxe Box Set comes in an 8LP or 4CD package, and features early demos, unreleased songs, a 2004 live performance from Irving Plaza in New York City, and the new documentary, 20 Years of American Idiot. American Idiot was the first Green Day album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and earned the band their first seven Grammy Award nominations, including wins for Best Rock Album and Record of the Year for “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.”

The band’s Instagram post announcing the reissue is captioned: “In the summer of 2004, Green Day entered the studio with Rob Cavallo to create American Idiot, uncertain of what the future held. They were audacious, rebellious, and stressed out by the state of the country at the time. American Idiot was crafted as a response to the daily bombardment of media that spreads it far and wide, making us desensitized and weary – filled with themes that still ring true today, even 20 years later.” (People)
